DEMENTIA CARE
A MOBILE APP SUPPORTING
PEOPLE LIVING WITH DEMENTIA & THEIR CARE PARTNERSÂ
WHY USE SIMON?
We work all our lives to retire with dignity.
Dementia threatens to steal that from millions of people each year.
Simon extends the period of independence, control, and dignity that those living with dementia deserve, while simultaneously keeping caregivers informed, confident, and prepared for the changing needs of their loved ones.

FEATURES
Combining existing, familiar technology to improve daily routine and safety
As memory declines, people who have dementia often get lost, forget pin codes, or completely lose track of the date, time, and even their appetite. Using geotracking and machine learning, Simon aims to aid those in the early stages of dementia in order to remain independent for longer while keeping care partners and loved ones informed and alerting them to abnormalities in behavior.

ABOUT SIMON
INSPIRED BY PERSONAL EXPERIENCES
In 2018, our co-founder Dan Brown learned that his mother-in-law Frederique was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. In the years that followed, Dan spent a lot of time helping with her care, as well as supporting his wife in her care. On one particular outing to the market, Frederique forgot to bring cash to pay for goods, then forgot her ATM pin when they went to get more cash, and then forgot her code to enter her apartment when they finally returned.

Dan’s curiosity about supporting people like Frederique and their caregivers through technology lead to Simon. Knowing that our phones already track our most frequented locations, our schedules, and even the length of our stride, Simon pulls these familiar tools together in a place specifically for those with cognitive impairment, supplementing the real intelligence lost to pathology.
DESIGNED BY CARERS AND PEOPLE WITH DEMENTIA, FOR CARERS AND PEOPLE WITH DEMENTIA
Simon was built specifically for people living with dementia and their care partners. We undertook a rigorous co-design process, involving people with dementia at every step to ensure the product works for you.

Dementia manifests differently for each individual, which is why we try to avoid assumptions. With input from dementia engagement groups across the UK, Simon emphasizes simplicity and ease-of-use in lieu of trying to solve all of your problems. Our users have expressed increased feelings of confidence, independence, and improved medication adherence after mere weeks of using Simon.
CHANGING DEMENTIA CARE
Inspired by personal experiences, Simon allows caregivers to monitor the well-being of their loved ones via geo tracking and calendar functions, while providing a grounding place for people who have dementia. Beyond simple care management, Simon takes the next step by deploying nudge technology, via location-based push notifications, to guide people with dementia towards more autonomy.

At its most basic, Simon is an interactive calendar and map available to a group of people, in order to support the care of one person. But the opportunity goes far beyond that. At present, there is little understanding of the behavioral aspect of cognitive decline. With our technology, we can track this decline daily and learn the needs of our users as the disease progresses. Through this data we can change the understanding of dementia care and its progression.
The aging global population is the largest generation of adults to ever age into retirement. They bring with them decades of digital literacy, and a strong sense of independence. People with dementia are living longer lives, and there are more and more diagnoses every year. Care is expensive and labor intensive. Simon acts as a force multiplier in dementia care for caregivers and for individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

Simon has many applications beyond dementia. Our technology can be applied to a large swath of the population, with over 25% of seniors eventually experiencing some form of mild cognitive impairment. From developmental disabilities to learning disorders, our nudge technology and shared care support can promote confidence and autonomy for a variety of users.
